Mt. Vernon and D.C.

Yesterday, we toured Mt. Vernon, the home of President George Washington. The house was very nice, but the 16-sided barn was really one of the highlights!
We also took a nice stroll through the forest.
We then drove to Washington D.C. where we stayed with cousin Andy and Courtney. Our first stop in the capital were the Washington and Lincoln monuments and the Vietnam and WWII memorials.
At the WWII memorial, Shelby found home and gave it a hug.
Jon decided to do the typical tourist picture with the Washington monument.
Today, we toured some of the Smithsonian museums. Jon and Joe loved seeing C3PO and R2D2 in the Air and Space Museum (unfortunately the American History museum was closed for renovations but we were able to see some of the exhibits that had been to moved to the Air and Space museum). Our last sight of the day was the capital building. We waved goodbye to D.C. and got back on the Metro to go back to Cousin Andy and Courtney's house. Some funny quotes from the past few days:

"I love New York City!" --Joe, as we were walking through Washington D.C. (We think he was a little confused)

"Yes!" --everyone, when we found out that the soft drinks were cheaper than the water at lunch in Williamsburg (we had decided to drink water at meals to save a little money)

"Now what was Williamsburg all about?" --Maddy, right after we spent a whole day there learning all about it

"Joe's over there begging for money." --Jon, after Dad had explained to Joe what the homeless people were doing
